South Devon Towns - Newton Abbot

The ancient market town of Newton Abbot is based in the Teignbridge District of Devon,christian louboutin soldes, in the South West of England. There are a number of attractions situated in and around the town, with a variety of nearby hotels in Devon. It boasts three country parks including Decoy, Stover and Bradley and is situated just 7 miles from Dartmoor and just 10 miles from Torquay.

History

Originally in the 1300's there were two market towns,scarpe hogan, Newton Abbot and Newton Bushel which quickly became thriving market towns. The two twin towns eventually merged together in 1633 to become Newton Abbot. Weekly markets were originally held on Wednesdays until 1751 when a smaller market began on Saturdays and both are still currently going to this day. Other than weekly markets there were also three annual fairs- the cloth fair, the cattle fair and the cheese and onion fair which is still present today.

In Medieval times, Devon played an important part in sheep rearing. Newton Abbot had its own wool and leather industries and had wooden mills, fullers,mbt zum Verkauf, dryers, spinners and weavers. The two main industries,christian louboutin soldes, wool and leather, became the main types of employment in the town in the 19th Century, with the cloth fair being the towns busiest fair.

The introduction of the South Devon Railway reached Newton Abbot in 1846 and transformed the town from a market town into a communications centre and base for industry. The railway enabled Newton Abbot to link with nearby towns, Torquay (1848) and Moretonhampstead (1866).

Newton Abbot Racecourse

Newton Abbot Racecourse is set in the heart of the South Devon countryside. It provides a perfect day out for all the family. The paddock area is great for families and boasts three various restaurants - the Winning Post, the Paddock and the Manicou. On the course there are viewing ramps, disabled toilets and lifts to all floors. Children under 16 are admitted free and there are often various events that take place throughout the year with a variety of entertainment and attractions for children.

Decoy Country Park

The Decoy Country Park is situated on the edge of Newton Abbot. Once a quarry, it now provides the perfect opportunity to spot a range of wildlife. The country park is divided into four areas including the picnic area,billige MBT Schuhe, the pond area, the formal area and the large woodland which is a great place for walking, cycling, wildlife watching and picnics. Canoeing and sailing can also be enjoyed on the large lake.

Bradley Manor

Bradley Manor is a small medieval manor house surrounded by beautiful woodland and meadows. It dates back to the 15th Century and was passed onto the National Trust in 1938 by the current owner who manages and lives in the house. The house holds an impressive collection of pre-Raphaelite artwork and furniture, with finely crafted plasterwork and joinery.

Miniature pony centre

Situated on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, The Miniature Pony Centre provides a perfect day out for all the family. Set in 20 acres of parkland amongst the Dartmoor National Park,Christian Louboutin, the centre has a variety of animals and activities to keep you occupied.
